• Dsquared2 Men's Fall 2019

7 days ago - By WWD

In the Instagram era, experiences are becoming key to making a difference in the real, physical environment. While images and videos available on smartphones can help a brand spread its message, a proper event can guarantee guests will go back to their homes with special memories and emotions. This is what Dean and Dan Caten must have thought when they conceived the format of their fall runway show, with guests standing by the catwalk as at a music concert and bars serving drinks. And, indeed, the music was great - a mix of pop, dance and Madonna's iconic songs. The thing is, people...

  • Front Row at Prada Men's Fall 2019

7 days ago - By WWD

PRADA'S BRITS: British actor Callum Turner took in his first Prada show, although he said he had been to Milan a few times. “I love Milan and managed to see friends in a short amount of time,” he said, adding a few Italian words. Coming up for Turner are a BBC “conspiracy thriller” and his role as Frank Churchill in a new rendition of “Emma,” opposite Anya Taylor-Joy playing the titular heroine. “We need more Emma,” he joked about the latest cinematic version of the Jane Austen novel. Filming “in and around England” will start in May, directed by this “really cool American photographer and...

  • Bed J.W. Ford Men's Fall 2019

7 days ago - By WWD

This sensual, finely detailed collection based on the idea of the designer's own ideal wardrobe taking to the runway marked a promising Milan debut for Shinpei Yamagishi.
There was a bohemian dandy flavor to the silhouettes combining masculine and feminine elements, with the gleaming color-changing velvets, the plant prints on shirts and intarsia knits and the unique palette, mixing bright red, burgundy, saffron-yellow and fuchsia, which lent an ethnic flavor.
An unlined, draped red jacket with a shawl collar worn tucked into pants had a blouse feel to it, offering a soft counterpoint to...

  • Prada Men's Fall 2019

7 days ago - By WWD

The collision of humans and humanoids, science and sci-fi and the agonies of Frankenstein's monster were all playing on the mind of Miuccia Prada as she worked up her fall men's collection, a clever blend of the fantastical - and the commercial. The set, with its squishy foam floors, circuit board runway and dimmed yellow light bulbs, had an otherworldly feel to it, a place of isolation and protection.
Prada said she's been thinking a lot lately about people's humanity and sensitivity, of the forgotten, the struggling and of the “weakness and delicacy” of humans at a time of danger and...

  • Sunnei Men's Fall 2019

7 days ago - By WWD

Simone Rizzo and Loris Messina said backstage before the show that a few women's sketches done during their high-school years served as the starting point for their collection. This was reflected in the Nineties silhouettes of flared pants layered under tunic dresses, as well as in the slipdresses, including several printed with the poppies of a vintage Windows screen saver - an ironic reference to the pre-Internet era.
However, the lineup didn't exude any nostalgia; instead it was injected with a young, street vibe that avoided the traps of mainstream trends like neon hues, color-blocking...

  • Cividini Men's Fall 2019

7 days ago - By WWD

Artisanal quality met high-tech innovation in the Cividini collection. The brand's signature elegance was reflected in a line of cashmere sweaters, including a style embellished with two buttons at the collar; a nylon hoodie, and a bomber style with the front crafted from a technical material, which was embellished with utility pockets. While houndstooth and argyle patterns paid tribute to the men's wear tradition, sprayed effects and asymmetric colorblocking added an eccentric feel to cardigans and polo knits.

  • Etro Men's Fall 2019

7 days ago - By WWD

There was a lot going on during Etro's presentation, between the slightly creepy human mannequins wearing painted face masks and a bear-hug embrace of sustainability, with a mountain of eco-fabrics and swing tags on denim asking customers to “Save the earth's butt.”
Men's creative director Kean Etro was in full flow during Sunday's event at the Montenapoleone flagship, which showcased pieces including a jazzy plaid coat made from PET recycled bottles; jeans done in sustainable, eco-friendly denim, and a jacket patchworked together from bits of dead stock.
    There were videos, plastic bottle...

  • Missoni Men's Fall 2019

7 days ago - By WWD

An international art dealer was the male character that Angela Missoni had in mind for fall. In keeping with her inspiration, she collaborated with contemporary artist Anton Alvarez, who created an installation at the brand's Milan showroom. His sinuous and colorful sculptures resonated in the collection, where abstract motifs were rendered on soft mohair sweaters as well as in textured, hand-embroidered, whirling patterns that peppered beautiful turtleneck knits. The brand's color sensibility shined in the cashmere styles, including a bomber with a corduroy collar and in deconstructed...
