  • Brock Collection RTW Fall 2018

8 monthes ago - By WWD

It's fitting that Laura Vassar and Kristopher Brock are the new romantics in town - a beautiful, husband-and-wife design duo who came out of virtually nowhere to win the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2016 and get everyone's attention. Their story reads like a fairy tale, and to a great extent so does their collection. It's pure romance yet not fiction. The thing that makes their look - full of corsets, ruffles, taffeta and vintage-looking jacquards - compelling is that it's improbably modern. For all the frills, they've also developed a killer pair of jeans. For fall, they focused on making...

  • Kate Spade New York RTW Fall 2018

8 monthes ago - By WWD

Deborah Lloyd, Kate Spade's chief creative officer for the last 10 years, wasn't present for her last collection for the brand before incoming creative chief Nicola Glass takes over. Nevertheless, Lloyd didn't phone in the lineup. She went out on a high note with a collection informed by the American heartland - a bit of Nashville, a bit of prairie and a lot of sophisticated modern woman who doesn't want to look like she's from Nashville or the prairie. A white eyelet blouse over a black turtleneck, minimal denim midiskirt and burgundy boots with a Western attitude was quite nice. A black...

  • Chromat RTW Fall 2018

8 monthes ago - By WWD

As joyful and fun as a summer kayaking trip, Chromat creative director Becca McCharen-Tran delivered another playful show, which celebrated an extremely inclusive idea of feminine beauty. For the designer, body type and size don't matter; what really counts is the attitude of the women wearing her swimsuits.
The lineup, worked in an energetic color palette of bright tones mixed with neon hues, was strong on the brand's signature ergonomic one-piece suits and bikinis, which were designed to guarantee both athletic performance and a sexy look with their cutouts and sheer inserts.

  • Linder RTW Fall 2018 Review

8 monthes ago - By WWD

Fall 2018 marks the first official women's wear-only show for Linder, designed solely by Sam Linder after recently deciding to divide and conquer their women's and men's businesses with Kirt Millar. Linder cited the feminine spirit of Artemis, the lunar, virgin goddess of the hunt, as well as witches and paganism as influences when designing the collection aimed for independent women who frankly don't give a damn about dressing for the male audience.
Ready-to-wear was composed of a variety of ideas, ranging from tie-dye and moody, dark florals to gilded leather and reworked shirting and...

  • BCBG Max Azria RTW Fall 2018

8 monthes ago - By WWD

“Rough Glamour” was how Bernd Kroeber described his latest offering for BCBG Max Azria. In actuality, the collection was made up of four smaller groupings: what the designer called “tricky” outerwear, effortless loungewear, sensual eveningwear and men's wear inspired silhouettes. Outerwear looks were styled with contrast in mind, like an Army green coat with a shearling lining over an ivory lace dress, which Kroeber pointed to as his personal favorite. The pajama section, comprised of easy shirtdresses and robes paired with trousers, was the least editorial category. What was lost in...

  • Tory Burch RTW Fall 2018

8 monthes ago - By WWD

Sans prior conversation or show notes, one might easily have missed the inspiration behind Tory Burch's charming fall collection: Lee Radziwill. “It's not meant to be referential at all on her style because how do you perfect a style icon?” Burch mused about the woman who has become a friend. “But she is just such an inspiration. It's more about her character and strength and resilience.”
How to translate resilience into clothes? Burch went the romantic route, with a waft of boho. Inspired by Pina Bausch's Nelken, she installed a garden of pink carnations sprouting tall from imperfect...
