• Oscar de la Renta RTW Fall 2019

2 monthes ago - By WWD

Last spring, Oscar de la Renta's Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia explored various Mediterranean cultures as inspiration for their collection. They found the material too rich to leave, and continued for fall, focusing on Morocco and Spain. What interested them most was the mix of cultures in southern Spain, so for their set, they commissioned a series of colonnade arches inspired by the Grand Mosque of Córdoba in Andalusia. (Apart from setting the mood, the set sent another message as well: the Oscar camp is willing to spend a few bucks on show production.)
    The designers developed the theme...

  • The Elder Statesman RTW Fall 2019

2 monthes ago - By WWD

Discussing with designer Greg Chait the inspiration of his latest collection for The Elder Statesman is like taking a crash course on textiles ; this is what sets him apart from the rest.
His fall line was a clear continuation from his pre-fall collection, which was all about being on the road and what we leave behind, but this time around it evolved into the concept of said journey.
Racing suits were adorned with prints of good luck symbols, cashmere sweaters with hand-painted, psychedelic multicolored mushrooms, and jackets with embroidered patches of “Lucky 7's” and even gas-station...

The best hashtag for Christian Cowan's fall collection? ShowOff. The designer wanted to parody the culture of excessive oversharing on social media - be it boasting about vacations, showing off cars, money or even our own bodies - in his latest array. Cowan turned excess into over-the-top embellishments and more saturated neons than ever before, mixed in with silhouettes inspired by those of old Hollywood movie stars. A hot pink cocktail dress with a sizable feathered skirt opened the show, “classic items in my crazy way,” he quipped backstage.
    While giant tulle-layered garments didn't...

  • Gypsy Sport RTW Fall 2019

2 monthes ago - By WWD

Gender fluidity, deconstruction, a lot of exposed skin and a rebellious, provocative attitude were at the core of the Gypsy Sport's fall collection.
Lingerie and sportswear met in the opening looks, where underwear lace and tulle details were combined with striped jersey for mini slipdresses and bustier frocks, while a group of macro-houndstooth pieces featured cool manipulated sartorial constructions, including a jacket incorporating two different blazers fused together.
A crochet wrap knit, as well as an argyle loose sweater with extra long sleeves, showed an artisanal feel, while a suit...
